A Bit About Our Beginnings

I came to the Ladies of the Lake in 2001. The group had been meeting for about three years prior and had completed one round robin. Originally, I've been told, Lily offered or was asked to teach quilting to a group from the LDS Gig Harbor Ward. The group met at her home and soon either developed or honed their quilting skills under her able hand. Within a short time they had a round robin much like the one we are doing now. They added borders to a center made be each quilter. About the time they finished this round robin, they met at Harbor Quilts for show and tell. I hadn't yet move to Gig Harbor, but was visiting Melanie and went with her on that occasion. Here are some photos from that day:

Here is Lily with her gorgeous medallian center. The Ladies later made comments about not doing it justice with their additions. What do you think?

Gen shows her lovely bouquet center with its additional borders.

And here is Marty with her chickens...she was our chicken lady. We miss you Marty!!
The first retreat I attended at the lake on Anderson Island was just after nine-eleven. We were all thinking about recent events and glad to be in a cheerful enviornment. We each made a Lady of the Lake Block and had the others sign it. Mine still hangs in my sewing room. Melanie, Rita, Lily,(who is behind Gen?) Kandice, Sara and Gen were there.

Some of our blocks laid out together on that day.

It became common practice to have a drawing for blocks at the retreat. And Sara began keeping a journal....funny little incidents that occurred while we were there.

What do you have to add?

I am so glad Rita had a picture of the flower quilt to go with the blocks you made...do you see them in the quilt? This is a fun site...I am looking for more things to add! Sara
